Introduction of materials, comparison between imported PVDF membrane materials and domestic membrane materials

2024-12-09

Membrane material:

Membrane material is a material made by weaving fibers into a fabric substrate and coating both sides with resin to fix it. Fabric substrates are divided into two types: polyester fibers and glass fibers. Coating materials include polyvinyl chloride resin (PVC), silicone, and polytetrafluoroethylene resin (PTFE).

In mechanics, the substrate and coating material have the following functions respectively:

Fabric substrate - tensile, tear resistant, heat-resistant, durable, fire-resistant.

Coating material - weather resistant, stain resistant, easy to process, water-resistant, durable, and translucent.

Selection of membrane materials:

The membrane materials used for building membrane structures can be roughly divided into PVC membrane and PTFE membrane according to the different coating materials. The correct selection of membrane materials depends on factors such as the size, purpose, form, service life, and budget of the building.

PVC film (PVC Coated Polyester)

PVC film is cheaper than PTFE film and has the advantages of soft material, easy processing, and construction. But it is inferior to PTFE film in terms of strength, durability, and fire resistance.

PVC film material is made of polyester fiber fabric and PVC coating (polyvinyl chloride). The membrane material commonly used in construction is coated with several microns thick acrylic resin on the surface of PVC coated material to improve its anti fouling performance. However, after several years, it will discolor, stain, and deteriorate. The durability period of general PVC film varies from 5 to 8 years depending on the usage environment. In order to improve the weather resistance of PVC film materials, fluorine based resins have been developed in recent years as coatings on the surface treatment of PVC coated materials to enhance their weather resistance and anti fouling properties. PVDF is the abbreviation for Polyvinylide Fluoride, and the material coated with PVDF resin on the surface treatment of PVC film is called PVDF film. Compared with general PVC membranes, PVDF membranes have improved durability to over 10 years. PVF is the abbreviation for Polyvinyl Fluoride. PVF film material is processed by laminating PVF resin on the surface of PVC film, which has better durability and anti fouling advantages than PVDF film. However, due to poor processing, construction, and fire resistance, its usage is limited.

PTFE Coated Fiberglass

PTFE membrane is a material made by coating ultra-fine glass fiber fabric with polytetrafluoroethylene resin. The biggest feature of PTFE film is its high durability, fire resistance, and stain resistance. However, compared with PVC film, PTFE film has higher material and processing costs, and lower flexibility. In order to avoid the breakage of glass fibers during construction, specialized construction tools and techniques are required.

Durability:

PTFE coating material is very stable to chemicals such as acids, alkalis, and ultraviolet radiation, and is not prone to discoloration or cracking. After long-term use, fiberglass will not

Causing strength degradation or reduced tension. The color of the film material is generally white, with high transparency and a durability of over 25 years.

Anti fouling properties:

Due to the coating material being polytetrafluoroethylene resin, the surface friction coefficient is low, making it less prone to contamination and can be cleaned with rainwater.

Fire resistance:

PTFE film meets the characteristics of passing the fireproof material test in nearly all countries and can replace other roof materials for equivalent use.
